Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Applications include one (1) or more of the following:

pre-decorative and post decorative plating

jewellery production

component manufacture and machining

marine vessel construction

Material includes one (1) or more of the following:

cast iron

steel

zinc and its alloys

copper

aluminium and its alloys

bronzes

sterling silver

gold

plastics

Common surface imperfections include one (1) or more of the following:

pitted surface

machining lines

scale

rust

Finish includes one (1) or more of the following:

brightness

texture

roughness comparison

Finishing/polishing equipment includes one (1) or more of the following:

endless belt grinders

table linishers

pedestal grinders and polishers

felt wheels

fabric mops and brushes with underhand and overhand techniques

flexible drive appliances

buffing compounds

cutting compounds

abrasive belts

Finishing/polishing media includes the following:

solid and liquid compositions containing alumina, silicon carbide, diamond dust, tripoli, calcium oxide and iron oxides

Hazards include one (1) or more of the following:

airborne dust inhalation

unsecured components

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.

Observation Checklist
